The pre-school has a key person system - this means that each member of staff has a group of children for whom they are particularly responsible. Your child's key person will be the person who works with you to make sure that what the pre-school provides is right for your child's particular needs and interests. When your child first starts at the pre-school, they will help your child to settle and support with transition into different pre-school rooms.
Throughout your child's time at the pre-school, the key person may change but this will be to ensure they regularly see the key person and that they are well supported during sessions.
This is a book following the journey and development of your child through Highworth Pre-School. The Learning Journey is full of photos, observations, children’s work and clearly shows the progress they make at pre-school. The Learning Journey is available for viewing by parent/carers, please ask a member of staff.
Highworth Pre-School keeps a record of achievement for each child. Our aim is for it to be a working partnership with you to record the children’s achievements and to work together to provide what your child needs for their well-being and to make progress. This information will enable the key person to identify your child's stage of progress. You and the key person will then decide on how to help your child to move on to their next steps.
We aim to meet with parents at planned parent meetings to discuss each child’s progress report and next steps. Below is a summary of the reports/meetings:
2+ Progress Summary Reports (for children under 3) – this will be issued within 6 months of start date at pre-school and you will then be advised by your child’s key person when the next report/s will be completed.
3+ Progress Summary Reports (once children 3 years plus) – these will be issued 3 times per year - November, February/March and June.
