At Highworth Pre-School our sessions are split into the following groups:
These sessions are provided for 2 year olds, including children that are still in nappies. They are for preparing your child for pre-school and the activities are more suited to the younger age. There is a higher ratio of adults to children, 1 qualified staff member to 4 children.
From the term after their 3rd birthday all children receive government funding for up to 15 hours per week. In line with the government policy we give you the opportunity to access your child's 15 hours funding in a flexible way. These sessions are organised with a ratio of 1 adult to 8 children.
We offer flexibility in hours from 8am to 6pm.
Highworth Pre-School believes that care and education are equally important in the experience which we offer children. The routines and activities that make up the Pre-School's session/day are provided in ways that:
help each child to feel that she/he is a valued member of the pre-school;
ensure the safety of each child;
help children to gain from the social experience of being part of a group;
provide children with opportunities to learn and help them to value learning.
The pre-school organises its sessions so that the children can choose from - and work at - a range of activities and, in doing so, build up their ability to select and work through a task to its completion. The children are also helped and encouraged to take part in adult-led small and large group activities which introduce them to new experiences and help them to gain new skills, as well as helping them to learn to work with others.
The pre-school organises the day so that children can take part in a variety of child-chosen and adult-led activities, which is planned to ensure no duplication of activities for a child. These take account of children's changing energy levels throughout the day.
The children learn through free play and have opportunities to access our two large playrooms and garden during the sessions.
Self-Registration, snacks, circle time including stories, adult-led and child-led activities, free flow to allow child to access all toys and activities and lunch during the session.
